Welcome to Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church
At Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church, we support people as they seek to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are an American Baptist Church in partnerships with American Baptist Churches of Rhode Island and American Baptist Churches, USA. We are ecumenically minded and seek opportunities for
worship and service with other community churches.
Our church welcomes diverse families. We provide for Christian Education (Sunday School) for school aged children, as well as a nursery for pre-school children during worship services.
A very important part of our worship at Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church is our music program. We have been blessed with a strong music ministry consisting of a Sanctuary Choir, Hand bell Choir, two
organists, and many musically talented members who readily share their gifts during the worship services throughout the year.
At the conclusion of worship every Sunday all are invited to the fellowship hall to join in conversation and refreshments.

Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed!
The beauty and joy of Easter aren’t over – not just yet. Even as we may be
cleaning up the plastic grass from Easter baskets, and wondering how many chocolate bunnies we really did eat, the celebration of the Good News of the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday continues throughout April as we enter into the fifty days of Eastertide.
During this time, we remember how Jesus appeared to his disciples and followers until the time of his ascension. We journey with him and with the disciples as Jesus places all his teachings into the context of Easter morning. All those lessons he taught, all those parables he shared
come into new light as we are reminded of the depth and breadth of God’s Love for us displayed so brightly on that Easter Morn. And we rejoice in Jesus’ promise to “remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:20)
April is also the month in which we are reminded about our part in creation care as we celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. This may be a time to reconsider our own “footprint” on this planet we all call home. I am constantly amazed that even as we have been exploring this planet for so many eons, scientists and naturalists are still making amazing discoveries of new plant and animal species. God’s creation is truly amazing as it continues to unfold its beauty and majesty all around us.
As we continue to walk with Jesus and his disciples in this Eastertide, gleaning more clearly the depth of his love for us and his call for us to love one another as he loved us, may we also reflect upon the ways the whole creation expresses God’s creativity and love. And may April’s warmth and showers be a time of refreshment and renewal for you.

The Search Committee was appreciative of those in attendance at the March 10 congregational meeting where the Executive Board made a recommendation for reducing the Pastoral position to a two thirds position rather than one of full time. After discussion, a vote was passed in the affirmative. The Search Committee has contacted Rev. Courtny to repost the updated Pastoral position. Once again we await inquiries.

The Legend of the Dogwood
There is a legend, that at the time of the Crucifixion, the dogwood had been the size of the oak and other forest trees. So firm and strong was the tree that it was chosen as the timber of the cross.
That it was used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the tree. Jesus, nailed upon it, sensed this, and in His gentle pity for all sorrow and suffering said to it "Because of your regret and pity for My suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross... two long and two short petals. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorns,
and all who see it will remember."
